I had spent three solid days at home alone while Allison was recovering from the surgery in her hospital room. I told people I was getting the nursery ready and cleaning the place up top to bottom. In reality, I mostly sat on the couch playing Madden, answered a few work emails from my laptop, and took long naps because that folding chair by her hospital bed had killed my back. It sounds small when I say it out loud. It was not small to her, and it certainly wasn’t small once the front door closed behind us.
